Hi all.
What a great win for the girls today, and although we left the goal flurry until late, the score line was well deserved.
Firstly, I'd like to thank all of the girls who took a turn in goal. I know none of them wanted to do it; however, they all did a superb job, conceding no goals and not even looking like they would, really! Thanks, Izzy and Ruby, and especially Paloma, who did a double stint. We will make an effort to get the others trained up to help out, also!
Secondly, the defence was outstanding today, with Grace marshalling the back line so well, with Izzy and Delilah playing superbly, and not really giving Cranleigh much of a chance. We dealt with the long kicks from their keeper so well, judging the bounce and clearing up all the danger, amazing job girls, well done. The coach's player went to Grace, who we felt was outstanding, especially in the first half, reading the game, clearing the danger, and also making some fantastic forward passes to break the Cranleigh lines - well done, Grace. ??
Bella and Paloma did a great job leading the line, and created chance after chance; if anything, the score could have been a lot higher with all the chances we created. Bella ? opened the scoring in the first quarter with a tenacious piece of play, well done Bella. Bella was also Parents' Player of the match, which was very well deserved as she never stopped running and was unlucky not to pick up a few more goals - that free-kick was so unlucky!
The midfielders were terrific throughout, Ava, Izzy, Ruby, Amelia, and Grace all taking turns to cover loads of ground - they never stopped running, on what was a hot day on a big pitch, and they gave Cranleigh very little time to settle on the ball - fantastic job girls!
I must say the passing in recent weeks has really jumped up a level, and the linking of play through midfield is so great to see from them. ???
Massive well done to Ruby, who was full of running throughout, linked up the play excellently, and was well deserving of her hat-trick with 3 very well-taken goals ???, and was also well deserving of Cranleigh's Players' Player.
Izzy ? also got on the score sheet in the final quarter, with a great strike that put the result beyond doubt and got a massive smile from all the girls!
So the final score was 5-0, having finished the half 2-0 up.
Scorers: Bella and Ruby in the first half, followed by Ruby, Izzy, and Ruby again in the last quarter!
Well done, girls, a fantastic result against a team who were playing in the division above until recently!??
